How long does the bankruptcy process take?
Approximately 3 months from the time you file a Chapter 7 case, you should receive a discharge order
in the mail from the court. The process could take longer for cases with complications like adversary
proceedings, exemption objections, and other motions.
A discharge in a Chapter 13 does not happen until the debtor successfully completes payments to the
Trustee for the life of the Chapter 13 plan, which ranges from 3 to 5 years.
